Get your free estimateDaikin Thermostat Installation: The Houston Owner’s Guide
Daikin thermostat installation in Houston typically runs $185–$425 installed, depending on which Daikin thermostat you choose and whether your system needs any wiring updates. We keep the most common Daikin One Touch and Daikin One+ models on our trucks, so most swaps happen the same day we arrive. The way owners usually find out their thermostat has failed is simple: the display goes dark, the system won’t respond to temperature changes, or the AC and heat start short-cycling for no obvious reason.
What surprises people is how often a “system problem” turns out to be a thermostat that stopped sending voltage. In Houston heat, a dead thermostat and a dead compressor produce the same result: a house climbing toward 90 degrees. Before you assume the worst, it pays to check the thermostat first.
Which Daikin Models This Applies To
If you own a Daikin heat pump, mini-split, or full split system, the thermostat options fall into two camps: the Daikin One Touch and the Daikin One+. The One Touch works on most communicating Daikin systems. The One+ adds smart-home integration, wireless remote sensors, and a cleaner interface, and it pulls slightly more power, which matters if your existing wiring is older.
One compatibility gotcha we see regularly in Houston: older Daikin communicating thermostats do not swap cleanly with non-communicating or universal models. If you install a generic thermostat on a communicating system, you lose variable-speed control and error-code reporting. The system will run, but it will run dumb. That’s why we pull the model number off the existing thermostat and check the system board before we recommend anything. We treat Daikin as OEM-first on communicating systems because aftermarket options rarely preserve the full feature set. For older, non-communicating Daikin units, a quality Honeywell or Ecobee can work fine, but we will tell you plainly which path makes sense for your setup.

Signs Your Daikin Thermostat Installation Is Failing
- Blank display or flickering screen. This usually means the thermostat lost power from the air handler, or the internal power circuit failed. A blown fuse or a broken wire at the terminal block is the most common cause.
- System runs but ignores temperature setting. When you set it to 72 and the house sits at 78, the thermostat’s internal sensor or its wiring to the control board has likely failed. The system doesn’t know the room is hot.
- Short cycling — system kicks on and off every few minutes. A failing thermostat can send intermittent voltage instead of a steady call for cooling. This is hard on compressors, and in Houston summers it will shorten the life of your outdoor unit.
- One mode works, the other doesn’t. Heat runs fine but cooling won’t engage, or vice versa. On Daikin systems, the thermostat sends separate signals for each mode, and a failing relay or corroded terminal will drop one side of it.
- Temperature reading on the display is wrong by 5 degrees or more. The internal sensor is drifting. It happens more often in homes with high humidity, which describes most of Houston from May through October.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Labor runs $95–$150 for a straightforward swap. The thermostat itself is where the range widens. A basic Daikin One Touch runs $90–$160, while a Daikin One+ with sensors runs $180–$275. So the total installed price lands between $185 and $425 for most Houston homes. If your existing wiring is old two-wire and we need to pull a new control wire to support the thermostat, that adds $75–$125 in most cases.
Every quote is a written price before any work starts. That includes the thermostat, the wiring check, the install, and a written guarantee on the work. If the thermostat fails within a year, we replace it at no charge. No hidden trip fee, no surprise upcharge at the door. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it has been since 2003.
DIY or Call Us?
You can check a few things safely before calling: confirm the breaker on the air handler is on, check that the thermostat’s display isn’t showing a low-battery icon, and look for a tripped condensate float switch, which is a small white box near the indoor unit that cuts power when the drain line backs up. Those three checks solve maybe 20% of the calls we get.
What you should not do is open the thermostat and start moving wires around with the system powered. A Daikin communicating thermostat carries low voltage, but it also carries control signals. A wrong wire on the wrong terminal can damage the control board, and that’s a $400–$900 mistake. If the display is dead and the breaker is on, call us. We answer live, 24/7. Marco Benitez and the Dalton crew have installed and replaced Daikin thermostats in Houston homes for years, and we have seen every wiring mistake an owner can make. Save yourself the board replacement.
FAQs
Most Daikin thermostats last 7–12 years. In Houston, where heat and humidity push HVAC systems hard, we typically see thermostats start to drift or fail around year 8. Surge events and attic heat can shorten that.
In most cases, no. The internal sensors and relays are surface-mounted components that are not serviceable in the field. Once they fail, replacement is the only reliable fix. We will tell you if the issue is actually a wiring or fuse problem instead, so you don’t replace a thermostat that wasn’t broken.
A straightforward swap takes 45–60 minutes. If we need to pull new control wiring, plan for about two hours. We test the system in both heat and cool modes before we leave, and we leave the site clean.
Yes. We keep the Daikin One Touch and One+ in stock, along with universal options for older non-communicating systems. If you have a less common Daikin model, we can typically have it in hand within 24–48 hours. Call us at (903) 494-7686 and we will confirm what fits your system before we roll a truck.
If your Daikin thermostat is dead, drifting, or short-cycling your system, call Dalton Heating & Air Houston at (903) 494-7686 for a free estimate. We will tell you what the system is doing and what it needs — not what sells.
